Welcome back fellow gamers! Team Max@Play picked up the mantle to correct what’s wrong with the tundra of Icewind Dale. This is the first time around D&D for the clan so the footage features 1 hour of solo gameplay. In hindsight, this game is good on a solo mission but in the latter part of the first act, we really could’ve used backup. The training mission was pretty thorough helping players familiarize themselves with the mechanics.
Protip: get accustomed to activating/selecting/deactivating auto-target/lock-on mode. The camera can definitely find its way under you.
Wulfgar, son of Beornegar, is the barbarian hero of Icewind Dale in the Forgotten Realms campaign and the current King. Going against our natural affinity to dwarves, the Barbarian King was the first choice. His mighty hammer gives great melee range and striking power but the build-up to swing can be costly. Depending on where he is in the swing he can still block or parry incoming attacks. Definitely go for the parry when available for the chain and speed bonus. Built for battle, we’re looking forward to seeing the synergy between the other members.
In the thick of battle, it can get kinda harry. Enemies can spawn and respawn all over the combat zone. If you have it turned on, there is a system that points to every enemy and accentuates those preparing to attack. Watching this will increase your chances to dodge, block or parry. Friendly fire is a double-edged sword. We say that to emphasize that the enemies can hurt each other as well.
Protip: Keeping larger enemies between your character and ranged enemies will put them in the line of fire and help knock down that life bar.
Team Max@Play is definitely looking forward to progressing and unlocking some of the customization items. You gotta love mixing up your armor and accessories and altering the skin designs. The overall reviews for Dark Alliance have been mixed with the Steam community, we’re going to hold on to our final opinion after a few more hours and some multiplayer team-ups.
