Music Monday: Mic Phelps

Mic Phelps is a Detroit born and Pontiac raised hip hop artist. Getting his start in slam poetry where he became a Nationally ranked poet, Detroit National Slam Champion and a part of the 2011 Midwest Rustbelt Slam Championship team.

From there he entered the Detroit Hip Hop scene with Detroit super group Cold Men Young who has made waves individually and as a group around the country, by releasing critically acclaimed albums, headlining festivals and also opening up for some of Hip Hop’s biggest names. (I.e Rza, Big Krit, Currensy, Talib Kweli, etc) Mic has electrified crowds all over, at events like, SxSW Music and Film Festival in Austin, Texas, Fox’s The X-Factor, Detroit African American World Festival, Detroit Jazz Festival, Allied Media Conference, Arts Beats and Eats and the list goes on.

Mic’s music is a soulful, socially conscious, smoked out mesh of impossible rhyme patterns, smooth party vibes and introspective thoughts on top of an array of incredible production.

Also with a strong following in the battle rap culture as an established battler, Mic Phelps stretches his talents to the max, and prides himself in being a master in all areas of his art form.

When not ripping up stages or writing the fire, he’s teaching creative writing, drama, poetry and hip hop in various schools in the Detroit Public School system.

Mic Phelps is a renaissance artist and the future of not only Michigan hip hop, but Hip hop nationally and abroad.
