PlayStation 5 News: Everything We Know (So far)

It’s a new year which means new games and next-generation consoles today we’re going to be talking about the upcoming PlayStation 5. The PS5 is Sony’s newest release from PlayStation to succeed the PlayStation 4. Last year during an interview with WIRED Sony’s lead system architect, Mark Cerny said some changes you can expect to see are audio, storage space and visuals. Here are some of the confirmed specs.

  • GPU: Custom AMD Navi – capable of ray tracing
  • CPU: 8-core AMD Ryzen, 7nm Zen 2
  • Storage: SSD
  • Optical: 4K Blu Ray media player
  • Visuals: Native 4K 120Hz + 8K
  • Audio: 3D

Last month inside a panel at CES 2020 Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, Jim Ryan revealed the upcoming logo for the new generation console which isn’t much different from its previous incarnations.

Now onto the controller which has yet to be named, but with Sony’s history, it’s expected to be named the DualShock 5. Business Insider Japan had an interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, Jim Ryan which was translated by Gematsu and he mentions that some of the new updates that would be coming are better sound quality, more storage and haptic feedback which will replace the current controller’s rumbling vibration providing broader feedback.

Japanese Patent Office/Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment received a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to start issuing microtransactions. With the use of an artificial intelligent assistant to help players progressed further in a game by providing resources at a small cost. Here’s a brief description.

“The method includes operations for processing game data of the player for determining a current state and processing game data of other players that have completed the objective. The method further includes operations for identifying successful attempts of completing the objective by other players and the resources used in doing so. The method selects a resource that is usable by the player to complete the objective based on those resources by the other players in the successful attempts and presents the resource to the player for immediate use.”

No official console design or price has been announced for the console. The PlayStation 5 is expected to come out later this year during the holiday season the website is currently up.
