“Key-ya comes from the gut” One of the many awesome lines from The Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver better know as Jason David Frank. The Green Ranger panel, atNew York Comic Con, was one of the most anticipated of the weekend. The line crossed itself half a dozen times full with Power Ranger fans. Con goers were given an extra treat before the panel even started when JDF walks through the line, shaking hands, taking selfies and greeting everyone on a much more personal scale. Remaining humble though all the success was another big staple. He introduced us to his 18 year old daughter, Jenna Frank, who is set to be the next Pink Ranger. In his interaction with his daughter, fans saw a real loving side in Jason. He’s a cool dad acting like “The Cool Dad” loaded with corny jokes and embarrassingly funny kid stories. Jenna helps her dad with all of his social media while maintaining her own as well as a blog.
Jason David Frank talked about some of his favorite moments working on the set of The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers. He had martial arts mastered but got help with his on screen acting from his teammates, in exchange he helped them with their fighting techniques. Frank also contributed new characters and comics such as Lord Drakkonos to the mix.
Just before the Question and Answer portion from the audience he shared information about his new book and a new video game bring released. He touched on an earlier role in the TV sitcom Family Matters, where he played a gangster named Spike that gets knocked into a book case by Steve Urkel. It was one of his favorite moments as a stunt man, mainly because they paid well. The biggest crowd reaction is when he addressed fighting CM Punk. Punk has a less than stellar track record as a UFC fighter, which is the mirror to his career as a straight edged wrestler. As far back as 2014, JDF expressed an interest in fighting CM Punk but the challenge has yet to be accepted. There was even talk of Jason going in disguise to a CM PUNK panel and asking him “Hey, why won’t you fight Jason David Frank!” below revealing his true identity.
The Green Ranger Panel at New York Comic Con was like sitting in a room with great child hood friends sharing memories and wild stories. If you want to see where Jason will be next check out his Facebook fan page.
