Our time at the Pokémon’s North American International Championship in Ohio

Over the weekend the Max@Play team was at Pokémon’s North American International Championship at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. It’s an annual event where players of the classic trading card game from the Pokémon franchise.

Players are divided into three sections Junior, Senior and Master all competing for an invitation to the Pokémon World Championships in London later in August.

Not the competing type, but still love the fandom? The event provided casual experiences such as areas for people to play Pokémon GO, Pokkén Tournament DX and Pokémon Stadium.

For the most part the event was rather uneventful, except a player who brought rather extremely large playing cards to compete in. This was first noticed on Twitter before quickly making headlines.

The owner of this collection is Matthew Verive his 60 giant novelty cards were acceptable as the judges deemed it was fait play due to the fact card size was not specified in the rules Yet, there was a possibly he would’ve been disqualified.

As Verive received more attention online he decided to show his deck to the world.
